Details

Hjarnø lies at the mouth of Horsens Fjord. Today the island has about 100 permanent residents. The port is used by the ferry for snaptun. A boat dock has been erected alongside the ferry port. Guest sailors are welcome to use free spaces.

There are ferries to Snaptun about 25 times a day - the crossing takes about 7 minutes. There is a café on the island that is open during the summer months - the café is called The Old Smeide. Groceries can be purchased at Hjarnø Campingground , which has a smaller grocery selection. It is also possible to get washed and dried clothes at the campsite.

Attractions

There are fine bathing beaches and the opportunity for good walks on Hjarnø. On the southern part of the island there are a number of marked paths and roads that allow for varied tours.

Hjarnø Church is a small whitewashed church that is beautifully situated down to the beach just east of the ferry dock. The church is built in the 16th century. The church ship in Hjarnøkirke is a Viking ship, which is a bit unusual in a Danish church. The church is open during the daytime.
